Ma’avarim Mentoring Program
- Shlavim at School
Ma’avarim means “transitions.” This program guides students through the critical developmental stage of transferring from elementary school to junior high school. Many students from low socioeconomic backgrounds drop out at this vulnerable transition point because:
- Parents are unfamiliar with the educational system and the options available to their children
- Children in more supportive and individualized schools have difficulty fitting into a mainstream environment.
- Poorly trained educators failed to identify and address learning difficulties in elementary school.
- A growing number of families suffer from insufficient parental authority.
It is crucial that these children, and their families, receive the appropriate support and guidance provided by Team Shlavim.
